Council snaps up former police building

West Midlands police station on Chase Avenue

A police accommodation building next to a Coventry police station has been sold to the council.

The building on Chase Avenue will be used by Coventry city council as temporary accommodation for homeless people, after demand for housing and homelessness services increased with more than 1,100 families or single people in temporary accommodation every week.

Private bedrooms and shared laundry and cooking facilities will be included, with 34-36 beds provided on top of a further 111 beds elsewhere in the city.

Local partners, businesses, residents and councillors representing the Binley and Willenhall Ward will engage with local people for the project.

The longer-term aim is for all clients to be given support to move out of the temporary accommodation and into secure long-term settled homes.

The West Midlands Police station will remain open.
