The University of Warwick appoints contractor for demolition projects
The University of Warwick has appointed to carry out multiple demolitions at its Westwood campus.
The 13-week project includes demolishing the graduate studies building and two vacant residential properties on Kirby Corner Road, near the campus.
J Freeley will start with extensive preparatory work and asbestos removal before proceeding with both manual and mechanical demolition of the Graduate Studies building, including its floor slab and foundations.
The contractor will also install a new emergency staircase, fire door and emergency lighting in an adjacent building that will remain.
After the demolition, the site will be landscaped.
Michael Freeley, director at J Freeley, said: “This is our second project for The University of Warwick and builds on our experience of delivering projects within live environments.
“Carrying out demolition works in the middle of a busy campus is challenging. It is imperative that we minimise any disturbance for students, staff and the local community, so the careful control of dust, noise, vibration and traffic is essential. The landscaping works will be carried out before we hand the site back to the University, providing a beneficial amenity for students and staff.”
