McAlpine wins £91m Broadmarsh race
Reports suggest the firm has won the three-horse race

Construction firm Sir Robert McAlpine has landed a £91m contract to redevelop the intu Broadmarsh shopping centre in Nottingham, according to reports.

Construction News says that the firm has won the race for the Broadmarsh, beating off competition fron Laing O’Rourke and Bowmer & Kirkland.

McAlpine entered the running late, only submitting its bid in June – a month after its rivals.

Last week, intu, the retail and leisure operator which owns shopping centres in Nottingham and Derby, has said it expects to commit £89m to redevelopment of the Broadmarsh shopping centre later this year.

In a trading update, the business said it will spend £37m in 2018, £36m in 2019 and £16m in 2020 to finish the redevelopment.

Earlier this year intu announced the signing of The Light Cinemas as its first leisure anchor tenant for the scheme.
