Nottingham accountancy firm unveils new heavyweight partner

One of the East Midlands’ best known names in accountancy has joined Nottingham-based UHY Hacker Young as partner.

Roger Merchant has more than 30 years’ audit experience internationally, having worked as a partner in both London and Warsaw, before moving to the East Midlands 20 years ago. He joins UHY Hacker Young from BDO where he headed up the firm’s Leicester office. Before that he worked for PKF. He started his career at PwC where he spent 26 years.

Merchant will be working across the charity, family business and construction sectors in his new role at UHY. In addition to audit and assurance services, he will be providing internal audit, due diligence and corporate finance advice to his clients.

He said: “I am delighted to be furthering my career here in the East Midlands, as it’s a diverse and innovative region. I am particularly pleased to be joining UHY Hacker Young during such an exciting period of growth.

“I am hoping to utilise my wealth of local knowledge and audit experience to support UHY’s plans in the region, which I am certain will present a number of exciting opportunities to the firm. I want to build my long term future here and as a partner I will be able to work alongside likeminded individuals here in Nottingham.”

Merchant is a trustee and chair of the audit committee with Derby Museums and represents Leicester and Northampton on the national council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is also a director of Leicester Business Voice, ensuring business needs are taken into account by key decision makers.
