Plans in to transform Nottingham eyesore into mixed-use scheme

Plans for a 325-house development in Nottingham have been submitted to the city’s Council.

The scheme is for a two-phase project by Maryland Securities and Forest Investments. The first phase will see an eight-storey mixed-used residential block of 81 flats and seven commercial units on land at the site of Forest Mill on Alfreton Road in Nottingham.

The second phase will include another 234 homes of as-yet undefined size. It will also include a 65-space car park for residents.

The Forest Mill site has been derelict for years and has become an eyesore. Representatives from Maryland Securities met with Nottingham City Council last year and have now submitted plans via Peter Wilkinson at Leicester-based Landmark Planning.

Maryland Securities Group is a privately-owned group of companies active in property and retailing businesses with 1,100 staff nationally. It has been responsible for the Shudehill and Great Ducie Street developments in Manchester, but is notoriously low-profile.

Maryland says the residential part of the scheme will be managed by Manchester’s urbanbubble.

In January, Nottingham City Council’s Design Review Panel said: ““The Panel welcomes the applicant’s commitment to bring forward the regeneration of this long standing development site and the improvements this will bring to this part of Radford.

“The Panel is therefore generally supportive of the scheme commending its strong vision, and the mix of residential and commercial. However the key to the success of the scheme will be in ensuring the development complements and enhances the Alfreton Road street scene.”

A statement from Landmark reads: “Overall the support of the DRP is welcomed and the developer is grateful for the continuing involvement of the Council officers in
developing the scheme to one that should be substantial boost to both the urban design of the area and the confidence of its residents.”
