250 jobs on the horizon as plans submitted for commercial unit

Proposals have been submitted for a major new commercial unit on the site of the former Royal Bank of Scotland data centre in Kegworth.
Hobden Estates has filed plans with North West Leicestershire District Council for a 170,000 sq ft development on Packington Hill, which is expected to create around 250 new jobs.
The existing building, which has been decommissioned since 2021, was originally built in 1970 and recent a assessment has confirmed it has low historical, evidential, aesthetic, and communal value.

As part of the development, the existing building will be demolished in two phases, with demolition approval confirmed by the Council in December 2024.
The new warehouse will have an internal area of 174,129 sq ft, including office space and 160 car parking spaces.
It will be designed with easy access to transport links, including the national highway network and East Midlands Airport.
Proposals say “the development will also focus on investing in skills and education for the local workforce.”
A newsletter was circulated to keep local people informed about the proposed redevelopment, outlining the plans and inviting feedback.
