Notts firm bags £3m HS2 contract

A £3m contract to demolish a 50-acre site in Birmingham to make way for a new maintenance depot for HS2 has been secured by Nottingham-based Total Reclaims Demolition.

The former Heartlands Park site in Washwood Heath has been razed to the ground by the firm, which has recently celebrated its 25th year in business.

It is the third of four sites to be demolished by the Nottinghamshire-based company as part of a contract from LM JV – a partnership between Laing O’Rouke and Murphy.

Since June last year, the family-run company has completed the demolition of the former UK Mail Sorting Office in Wolsley Drive, Birmingham, and the partial demolition of the Auria manufacturing facility in Gorsey Lane, Coleshill, Birmingham.

All the sites form part of the plans to bring the new HS2 line from London to Birmingham, with the Heartlands Park site being earmarked for a new HS2 rolling stock maintenance depot.

Total Reclaims Demolition, based in Hucknall, beat off competition from numerous other firms to be awarded the contract.

Stephen Fisher, the firm’s business development manager, said: “We are delighted to have been involved in such a prestigious project, which has provided ongoing work for our company.

“A third of our workforce has been involved in the project, which has also resulted in increased hours for our administration staff and further training for our drivers.

“It has also meant that we have achieved the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Bronze Standard and we are now working towards Silver.

“This year marks our 25th year in business so it is fabulous to have completed such a big project in our anniversary year.”

Total Reclaims Demolition employs 80 people.
