Plans for new £2.5m Rushcliffe waste recycling centre revealed

Where the next facility will be located

Plans have been revealed for a new £2.5m recycling centre in the Rushcliffe area of Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire County Council says the facility could be built on Hollygate Lane in the former mining town of Cotgrave on land that was previously used as part of Cotgrave Colliery Tip, but is now grazing land.

The site would be run by the Council’s PFI waste management partner Veolia and would generate 5-6,000 tonnes of waste a year.

The Council has identified the need for a recycling centre in Cotgrave with its current facility, in West Bridgford running at full operating capacity and suffering from traffic issues due to its location in a residential area.

Documents seen by TheBusinessDesk.com say the new centre in Cotgrave would cost around £500,000 a year to run and £2.5m to build.

The document reads: “It is anticipated that subject to the requirements of the Waste Planning Authority a full planning application could be submitted later this month with a subsequent application process to the Environment Agency for an Environmental Permit.

“Subject to receipt of planning permission and the Environmental Permit application construction would be likely to take in the order of six months, so a site could be open for late summer 2021.”

The plans will be put to the Communities and Place Committee of Nottinghamshire County Council on September 3.
