Over 1,500 University of Nottingham students test positive for Covid-19

Over 1,500 students and 20 members of staff at the University of Nottingham have been classed as “active confirmed cases” of coronavirus, according to newly-published figures.

Some 523 student in university halls have tested positive with Covid-19, while there are 310 in purpose-built student accommodation and 677 in private rented accommodation.

Twenty staff members have also tested positive for the week ending October 9. This is up from 400 cases in the previous week.

Nottingham Trent University is yet to publish its figures.

The numbers have been published ahead of a statement from Prime Minister Boris Johnson this afternoon in which he is expected to impose fresh restrictions on Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
