190 new homes on the way at 400-acre mixed use scheme

Branston Locks

Nurton Developments (Quintus) has signed up developer Lovell Partnerships to its Branston Locks scheme in Burton on Trent to build a further 190 homes.

Lovell joins Cameron Homes and Taylor Wimpey on the 400-acre mixed-use scheme, who have already built 100 homes and a further 160 planned.

Branston Locks is one of the first large-scale urban extensions to be delivered in the UK and when complete, the scheme will offer 2,500 homes alongside 1m sq ft of commercial space, creating up to 3,000 jobs.

Nurton Developments (Quintus) Ltd is a JV between Birmingham based Nurton Developments and a private investor.

An initial £8m investment in infrastructure spending, supported by a Strategic Infrastructure Award, has already unlocked the development of a new free secondary school which hopes to be open towards the end of 2021.

Extensive green infrastructure is also being put in place which will eventually encompass a 70-acre hillside park and green leisure corridor with open spaces for sports and recreation facilities

Ian Willicombe, development partner at Nurton Developments said: “Signing up a third housebuilder is testament to the quality of the scheme and our commitment to creating a sustainable, healthy and family focussed new community and an exemplar of how urban extensions should be delivered in the UK.

“Lovell Partnerships is another well-known name adding to the mix of homes available which will enhance and add to the current offering at Branston Locks to create a community where people want to live, work and play.”

Discussions are already underway with a number of occupiers for “significant” pre-lets on the commercial element of the mixed-use scheme.
