Government confirms Covid restrictions to be lifted from 19 July
Health Secretary Sajid Javid has confirmed that England will lift the last layer of Covid restrictions on July 19.
Almost all the remaining legal restraints will be done away with, as Javid said it was a case of “if not now, when”, adding that opening up during the summer gave the country a better chance of returning to normality.
Javid said the Governmment will publish a plan that advised the public to continue to wear masks on public transport and encourage businesses and large events to use Covid-certification in “high-risk situations”.
The Health Secretary also said he expects case numbers and hospitalisations will continue to rise but that he doesn’t think pressure on the NHS will be unsustainable as before Christmas.
