New details emerge of major King Power stadium redevelopment

Further details have emerged of Leicester City’s plans to redevelop their King Power stadium after a planning application was submitted to the city council.
The plans show that the Foxes want to remodel both the north and south stands – as well as the previously announced extension to the east stand, in a move that will increase the stadium’s capacity by 8,300 to 40,000.
Last month we reported that the club had submitted the plans to the city council – these have now been validated, with new information coming to light.
The newly-published application confirms that Leicester City’s owners have plans to build a 15-storey, 220-room hotel and a 6,000-capacity indoor arena that will host live events. The plans also outline a footbridge from the hotel to the revamped east stand and new office a commercial space, a multi-storey car park and 234-apartment residential scheme would also be included.
The Foxes say that the earliest the work on the east stand would be completed would see it open for the start of the 2024-25 season.
A planning statement reads: “The proposed expansion is seen as an ideal opportunity to upgrade and improve the standards for [the north, east and south] concourses.
“The expansion of these concourses do not increase capacity but provide enhanced comfort level for existing fans.”
The new east stand would have five levels and include a new fan bar, a lounge for premium ticket holders, hospitality facilities, a sensory room for children and a fanzone.
The Foxes say they hope to receive planning permission for the plans early nexy year so that work can start in the spring. The club says they hope to keep the stadium at its full capacity throughout the work.
Last month, a statement from the club said: “The Club extends its thanks to its external project team – including project managers Legends International; planning and development consultants Turley; and architects KSS – for their ongoing contributions, and Leicester City Council for its participation and consideration for the project to this stage.
“Having now shared our proposals with a diverse range of stakeholders in the city, the Club’s belief in the project’s transformational potential has been strengthened. We look forward to continuing to work with our community partners towards the realisation of that vision.”
