Developer to engage public over major mixed-use scheme

How the scheme will look

Members of the public will be given the chance to air their views and take an in-depth look at plans for a major new mixed-use scheme in Beeston town centre this Thursday (16 June).

Cassidy Group, which submitted a planning application for the seven-storey scheme on Station Road earlier this year, will be presenting computer generated images of the project and taking questions at a public engagement event at the adjacent Arc Cinema between 3pm and 8pm.

The proposed scheme includes over 400 student beds and a number of commercial and retail units. It will go before the planning committee in July.

There are currently no PBSA (Purpose Built Student Accommodation) buildings in Beeston, meaning that students living in Beeston reside in family homes which have been converted into flats or houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs).

Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to representatives of Cassidy Group, DPP planning consultants and Maber architects at the event.

Cassidy Group’s Sam Rose said: “We are keen to have lots of input from Beeston residents regarding this scheme, as it is designed to benefit the community just as much as it is the students.

“The scheme will free up homes for families to live in and encourage the use of public transport. Beeston has fantastic infrastructure, and the new development is designed to enhance that. We’re excited to see this site, which has sat derelict for so long, finally be the home of something exciting for Beeston.”
