Nominations are open for the East Midlands Business Masters 2022, which celebrate the achievements of firms of all sizes across the region. This year’s ceremony will take place on the evening of October 13 at the Crowne Plaza in Nottingham – click here to nominate your Business Masters for 2022.

We asked Luxfer Gas Cylinders’ alternative fuel systems general manager Lewis Anderson how it felt to be named sustainability champion at last year’s ceremony and found out what’s next on the firm’s agenda.

“We’re proud to be amongst a handful of pioneers who are truly innovating in hydrogen – so to be named a sustainability champion on our home turf, where our alternative fuel facility is based, was fantastic.

“At Luxfer, we’re privileged to always drive forward agendas that effect positive change and which our teams are proud to work on. We measure business success against the progress being made in the fight against climate change. These include how quickly net zero targets are being met, and the innovations and evolutions that are becoming a reality to make alternative fuel sources the norm.

“We’re committed to significantly reducing our carbon footprint and we’re well on the way to meeting our 2025 targets of reducing waste to landfill by 20 percent, increasing recycled packaging by 15 percent and increasing material efficiency by 10 percent.

“It’s an exciting time to be working within the alternative fuel sector. One of the most recent projects we have been involved with, and are particularly proud of, is our collaborative role in delivering a first-of-its-kind hydrogen-electric passenger bus. Launched earlier this year in Slovakia, the Mobility & Innovation H2Bus marked an important milestone in delivering zero-emissions solutions for urban transit across Europe, as the most fuel efficient and quickest-to-refuel vehicle on the market.

“What’s next on our agenda? More awards ceremonies (and wins, with any luck!). Luxfer was named a finalist recently in the prestigious World Hydrogen Awards. We’re also in the running for the Energy Awards, and we’ll learn our fate later this month.”

The deadline for entries is 8th July 2022. Good luck!
