40 jobs lost as civils firm goes under

Some 40 jobs have been lost at a Heanor-based civil engineering firm, it has emerged.

Earlier this week, we reported that the future looked uncertain for Atlas Building and Civil Engineering after it posted a second notice of intention (NOI) to appoint administrators.

Atlas Building and Civil Engineering posted the second NOI on April 28, two weeks after the first. It was also served with a winding up petition on April 19,

Now, bosses at the company have decided to close it down.

Director Jamie Lord told Construction Enquirer: “The downturn in housing simply made it unsustainable to continue because all the work has dried up.”

Atlas has been trading for 25 years.
