Weekender: Kind of Blue? Cheer yourself up at Nottingham Jazz Festival

Omar heads up a stellar line-up at the inaugural spring bank holiday event

Music lovers rejoice! The inaugural Nottingham Jazz Festival is set to launch over spring bank holiday weekend, organisers have revealed.

Taking place over three days from Friday 26 May to Sunday 28 May at canal-side venue Binks Yard’s outdoor terrace, jazz enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a weekend of live music from established and up-and-coming artists.

Multi-award-winning Italian jazz guitarist Antonio Forcione – hailed as one of the greatest acoustic guitarists of all time – and English singer, songwriter and actor Omar – widely considered to be the forefather of British neo-soul – are amongst the first acts to sign up for the event, with many more expected over the coming weeks.

Hotly tipped jazz pianist Tom Seals and saxophonist Snake Davis will join Forcione and Omar at the 1,000-capacity venue.

Ben Hicklin, head of events at Binks Yard, said: “We’re really excited to announce the launch of the Nottingham Jazz Festival. We’ve got some amazing acts lined up with more exciting acts still to be revealed. Our outdoor terrace is something we’re really proud of, and it’s fantastic events like this where our terrace really comes into its own.”

A selection of street food and items from the Binks Outdoor Smoker will be available during the festival.

Hicklin added: “It’s set to be a brilliant weekend and the perfect way to welcome in the summer months in style. We have even more exciting updates to be revealed soon too, so watch this space.”
