Redevelopment of fire-damaged Nottingham College site reaches milestone

The development site (NCHA)

A significant milestone has been achieved with the laying of the initial bricks for an apartment block, under construction by NCHA, on the site of the former Nottingham College campus in Farnborough Road, Clifton.

The previous campus faced a major fire incident in April of the preceding year.

Construction is currently underway on a three-story building on the property, set to house 50 apartments specifically designed for individuals aged 55 and above.

These residences, managed by the Nottingham Community Housing Association, will consist of a combination of one and two-bedroom apartments.

The homes are self-contained, however, the scheme will include shared facilities such as lounges, a kitchen and gardens.

There will also be staff on-site to provide additional support and the building and surrounding areas will be fully accessible with facilities for storing mobility scooters.

NCHA are working with Nottingham City Council, Homes England and Geda Construction to deliver this flagship development which is due to be completed by winter 2024.

Allan Fisher, director of development at NCHA, said: “It was great to visit the site and see the build progressing so well. It feels good to be providing these bespoke apartments, giving older people a greater choice in where they want to live.”

Councillor Jay Hayes, Nottingham City Council’s portfolio holder for housing, said: “The council welcomes this new affordable development for older people in Clifton. New homes of all types and tenures contribute towards local people being able to live in safe, warm and affordable homes, built to a high standard, in vibrant local neighbourhoods where everyone has a chance to thrive.”
