An even larger expansion is in store for a housing development on the northern outskirts of Market Harborough.

In 2016, outline approval was granted for the construction of up to 450 homes, a new school, and shops on the Airfield Farm site, as part of a broader initiative to build over 900 homes there.

The outline application is a preliminary step, with the finer details to be worked out later.

This year, plans for a local centre, featuring shops, a café, and a yoga studio were finalised and approved, along with plans for a 210-place school on the site

Applicant Davidsons Development is likely to get approval for 20 more homes, as recommended by Harborough District Council’s planning department in an upcoming meeting.

Documents from the local authority reveal that this addition would raise the total number of homes in this part of the development to 489, following a separate application by Davidsons for 19 more homes in 2021.

The 20 homes, expected to gain approval on Tuesday (October 31), would consist of five two-bedroom homes, including three bungalows, five three-bedroom homes, eight four-bedroom homes, and two five-bedroom homes.

Harborough District Council is also reviewing a second application for the Airfield Farm site. Davidsons has revised its initial plan for 315 homes in this section of the project.

The initial approval for those 315 homes was granted in 2019.

Now, Davidsons aims to raise the number of smaller homes while decreasing the count of four and five-bedroom homes. Harborough District Council finds this change to be “welcome” and has once more recommended approval.
