Deal secured to bring forward £24m Leicester housing scheme

Work has started at Loughborough Road in Leicester

Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) is set to work with Owl Partnerships on a £24m project that will see 100 homes built in Leicester.

This second joint project will see the development of 100 affordable units built on brownfield land on Loughborough Road, Leicester.

The deal follows the near completion of 55 homes at Sileby in Leicestershire.

A mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, 44 will be let at an affordable rent to people on the city’s waiting list. A further 42 will be part sold for shared ownership, and the remaining 14 will be commissioned by Leicester City Council for supported housing.

The development will support NCHA’s commitment to build 370 new affordable homes each year, and will go some way to alleviating the housing crisis in the city, that currently has 6,500 on its affordable housing waiting list.

Allan Fisher, director of development at NCHA: “There’s a really high demand for affordable housing in Leicester, so it’s great to see the build of 100 homes underway. We are delighted to be working with Owl for the second time to deliver much-needed affordable homes for people in Leicestershire.”

It’ll be the largest affordable housing scheme Owl Partnerships has built to date. The firm’s group managing director, David Bradley, said: “We are a leading provider of sustainable and high-quality residential properties in the Midlands and we are delighted to have started on our largest affordable scheme to date.”

The homes are being designed by BM3 architects.

The total cost of the scheme, in the region of £24m, will be funded by NCHA and Homes England.
