M1 closed as three HGVs collide
The M1 in Leicestershire is closed southbound this morning between J22 (Markfield) and J21A (Leicester/A46) due to multi-vehicle collision.
At around 5:30am Leicestershire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers responded to a multi-vehicle collision involving three heavy goods vehicles which resulted in one of the vehicles coming to land on its side.
A statement from National Highways said: “Due to the nature of the incident Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service are en route to assist in a multi-agency operation.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
National Highways has since said that the northbound carriageway between is also closed between J21A Leicester and J22 Markfield to allow the emergency services to work safely.
