Soft furnishings firm collapses into administration

A family-owned supplier of curtains to retailers and the hospitality trade has collapsed into administration.

Dean Nelson, head of business recovery and restructuring at PKF Smith Cooper, has been appointed joint administrator of Nottinghamshire-based soft furnishings company Home Curtains (UK).

On January 7, we exclusively revealed that Home Curtains (UK), based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, had posted a notice of intention to appoint administrators (NOI) via law firm Smith Partnership.

Due to rising costs of materials, shipping and energy, alongside reduced consumer spending and inflationary pressures, Nelson said the company faced difficulty maintaining profitability.

Trading of the business is being continued over the coming weeks, under the supervision of the joint administrator, while either a purchaser is found for the business and its assets, or the substantial quantity of quality stock is wound down and sold.

Nelson said: “I continue to encourage both the trade and the public to seize the opportunities available during this trading period for the company. I will be working towards maximising sales of stocks to obtain the best possible outcome for all creditors and stakeholders.”

In its latest accounts, made up to February 29 2024, the firm had net assets of over £2.3m. At the time, Home Curtains (UK) employed 33 people.
