Hurray for good news week
If you’re looking to take some good news out to the world of global inward investors what do you do? Why, you use the annual MIPIM shindig in Cannes to announce your big deal of course, but not if you’re Nottingham City Council…
In what has been a good week for chino wearers everywhere (what with the Cheltenham Festival dragging poor old minibus drivers across the back roads of the Vale of Belvoir to pick up and drop off half of the East Midlands’ bosses), Nottingham City Council decided not to use the professionals on hand in Cannes at MIPIM to announce the fact that they’d chosen a developer for the long-awaited Guildhall scheme, but instead opted for dribbling out a press release from the bowels of Loxley House, Station Street. At 7.27pm.
Never mind the headlines, here’s the protocol.
Cooking up a storm
After a high-powered meeting with a client, there’s nothing that Bev Cook from Simple Marketing Consultancy likes to do than head to the nearest real ale house for a couple of halves of Stout’s Neck. Then, after shooting the breeze with a regional business journalist, she trots off home and changes into a saree for an evening at one of Nottingham’s most expensive curry houses.
We’re sure you’ll agree, she scrubs up pretty well.
War games
To a meeting with Martin Burnett, one of the owners of recruitment firm Cherry Professional and generally one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Martin chose the Ned Ludd for an after-work tipple, and who am I to argue?
Alas, we weren’t alone. We’d managed to meet on exactly the same evening that the Nottingham Wargames Club gathers together to compare beards, hair length and personal hygiene over a bout of Dungeons and Dragons or two.
Truly, we will never forget the sights seen.
