Giving it back: the latest CSR news

Law firm Rothera Dowson has presented Nottingham-based charity Operation Orphan with a cheque for £3,000 after 12-months of fundraising.

The money was handed over during a pub quiz event at Pitcher & Piano, which marked the end of Operation Orphan’s year as Rothera Dowson’s chosen charity.

Over 50 people took part in the quiz, with teams made up of Rothera Dowson staff, clients and local businesses, including Smith Cooper and PR agency Tank. There were also two teams from Sharp Young & Pearce, the law firm that is set to merge with Rothera Dowson in June to create Rothera Sharp.

Staff at Rothera Dowson, which has offices in the Lace Market, Mapperley, Beeston, West Bridgford and Wollaton, raised the money by hosting a variety of events, including ‘Dress Down Fridays’, a fashion show at Alea and even entering a sponsored team into the Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest race.

LocallinkStaff at Local Link Recruitment in Boston have helped to put a smile on children’s faces by donating clothes, bedding and toys to Centrepoint Outreach.

The charity, which was first registered in 1991, provides support to homeless and vulnerable people and their families. CEO Liz Hopkins said: “We’re so grateful to everyone at Local Link Recruitment who has made a donation. These items will be passed on to our clients where possible or sold in the charity shop to raise much-needed funds.

“The number of homeless people in Boston and the surrounding area remains high and we rely heavily on the generosity of members of the public and business in the community.

“We have a drop-in centre where we provide tea, coffee and cake or a more substantial snack such as soup or pasta. We also offer one-to-one support for clients who need it and rough sleepers can also book a shower here. However, all of this costs money and we need to raise around £100,000 every year to keep the centre going.”
