Former Raleigh owner’s land up for sale

Beeston Fields Drive

Land at the entrance to Beeston Fields Golf Club is being sold by the owners, in order to invest in a major refurbishment programme for the clubhouse, which dates back to the 1830s.

The sale will also allow the owners to improve the entrance to the Beeston Fields estate.

The site of approximately 0.75 acres, situated at the entrance to the golf club on the corner of Wollaton Road and Old Drive, comes with full planning permission for three vernacular designed houses with modern internal layouts and four bedrooms, plus planning permission to convert and extend the existing Lodge, which was originally the gate house to Beeston Fields.

The surrounding area comprises residential properties and lawns, as well as the tree lined road leading to the 18-hole golf course and clubhouse.

Ann Taylor, sssociate director in the development team at Savills Nottingham, said: “The redevelopment of the land at Beeston Fields Golf Club will enable the owners to realise their aspirations for improvements, which will not only benefit its members and residents in the close vicinity, but also provide an opportunity for striking new residential units in an attractive green and leafy setting.

“I have no doubt that this site will be highly desirable to developers due to Beeston’s accessible location, superb transport links and close proximity to Nottingham University, the QMC hospital and the ring road system”.

Beeston Fields Golf Club was founded in 1923 by former Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Fred Mitchell, and 93 years later the golf club is still owned and managed by the same family.

Beeston Fields managing director, Philippa Marshall added: “This development is an exciting opportunity for us. It will improve the entrance to Beeston Fields and will also enable us to move ahead with our ambitious plans to refurbish and upgrade our restaurant and clubhouse.

“The purchaser will also be buying a site steeped in local history as Beeston Fields was once the home of Sir Harold Bowden, founder of the famous Nottingham bike brand, Raleigh”.

Four years ago, the Mitchell family restored the Victorian Walled Garden at Beeston Fields, which had fallen into disrepair and created a wedding venue on the site. The owners of the Golf Club will reinvest the sales proceeds back into the venue to further enhance these facilities.

Savills is marketing the site on behalf of Beeston Fields Golf Club. The site will be sold by way of an informal tender with offers to be made by noon on Monday 6 June 2016.
