Historic Leicestershire pub’s redevelopment nears completion

Architectural design and construction specialists TMDP Group is nearing completion of an extensive renovation project that will see new life breathed into one of Leicestershire’s oldest public houses.
The George at Great Oxendon, near Market Harborough is undergoing a major transformation and when the doors open in the next few weeks, the traditional village pub will also be home to a restaurant with eight boutique hotel bedrooms.
TMDP was commissioned by The George’s new owners Stephen and Tracy Fitzpatrick, who already own the Michelin rated The Joiners Arms, in Bruntingthorpe, to produce designs that retained the historic character and charm of the original 16th century building, whilst adding a modern and creative twist that will set it apart from the other local eateries.
TMDP was also appointed to carry out the renovation, refurbishment and interior design of The George, which combines a traditional ‘hunting lodge’ ambience with the chic and tasteful luxury which is synonymous with Stephen and Tracy’s signature theme.
Scott Moore, managing partner, TMDP Group said: “This has been a fantastic project for TMDP to work on, especially as it is a ‘turn-key’ commission in our home county.
“So many old pubs and the land they stand in are being sold off to provide housing, which really does take the heart out of village life, so it’s a pleasure to work with Stephen and Tracy to revitalise The George, and to help them stamp their extremely successful mark on what I’m sure will be a superb pub, restaurant and inn”
Stephen Fitzpatrick, proprietor and head chef (chef patron), The George, said: “We are now in the final throes of The George’s renovation, which for the whole team is very exciting. Our state of the art kitchen is currently being fitted and we are putting together the menus ready for the doors to open in the autumn.
“We’ve worked closely with the TMDP team over the past eighteen months to completely transform The George into a stylish pub, restaurant and hotel, and we are delighted with the outcome so far.
“With just three months to go until launch, it’s ‘all systems go’ to create, what we hope will be a jewel in the crown of Leicestershire. Together with our dedicated staff we aim to replicate the success of The Joiners Arms and provide our guests with an experience they will want to repeat time and again.”
The George is due for completion towards the end of October 2016.
