115-home scheme gets green light

How the homes will look

Work on 115 new homes has started on vacant land near Blackthorn Lane, Northampton, with plans including electric car charging points, a play area and 41 affordable homes.

Plans for the development, on the site of the former Blackthorn Middle School, include 74 three and four bedroom homes for sale on the open market, and 41 one, two and three bedroom houses and apartments that will be available as affordable housing.

All open market homes will come complete with electric car charging points, while a new on-site children’s area will be maintained and made available for public access for life.

Gary Belcher, managing director, partnerships south Midlands at Countryside, said: “It is with great pleasure that we have received planning permission for these much-needed family homes; our team is already on site working hard to bring this exciting scheme to life. The introduction of electric car charging points is a testament to our ongoing sustainability efforts, as we continually look for ways in which to make our homes even more eco-friendly.

“Abington Place will not only provide high quality and sustainable homes for sale, but will also bring significant investment into the area through the creation of a new public green space and will cater to the increasing need for affordable housing.”
