Family-run Birds bakery is set to open its second West Bridgford site in a move which will create 14 jobs.

The new venue, on Melton Road, will be the company’s 62nd, and will run alongside its other West Bridgord outlet on Central Avenue.

Birds will move into a former launderette which will see the ground floor turned into a cafe providing seating for 24 people.

Planning permission to change the use to mixed use, shop and café was granted in December 2020 from Rushcliffe Borough Council.

Mike Holling sales and marketing director Birds Bakery, said the company had now signed terms to open the new premises and is planning to welcome its first customers this spring.

“We are delighted to be opening our latest store in the popular location of West Bridgford,” he said. “This will be our second store in the area, with our first store on Central Avenue being incredibly popular since opening in 1984.

“Melton Road is the perfect location for us, surrounded by local shops. It will attract local residents passing by, as well as those travelling to and from Edwalton and surrounding areas with car parking on site.

“We are committed to investing in our stores and despite the current circumstances, we have seen a positive reaction to our take-away offering, showing that people are still looking for sweet treats and feel-good food.”
