Travelodge plans to reopen city centre site – despite plans to turn building into student flats

Budget hotel giant Travelodge says it is planning to reopen its Nottingham city centre when restrictions are lifted – despite plans lodged with Nottingham City Council to turn the building into student flats.

On Thursday (February 11), we exclusively revealed that a company called Nottingham Hotel Assets Limited wants to turn the building into 121 studio apartments.

A statement with the planning application reads: “This new development will provide high quality stylish student apartments, in the heart of Nottingham.

“All public areas will be stylish inviting, and designed to be accessible to all.”

The architect for the scheme, Self, says it will “celebrate the 1970s character of the building”, but that the outward appearance of the 10-storey tower “will change little”.

However, Travelodge says it is planning to open up again at the site once conditions allow. A spokesperson for the company said: “The hotel is closed at the moment due to the restrictions but we are looking forward to opening it up again once allowed and are busily preparing the team for re-opening – hopefully in the next few weeks.”
