Major blaze at animal feed plant shuts roads and rail

A major fire has broken out at an animal feed plant in Burton which is causing chaos for road and rail users.

Firefighters from five stations were called to Rumenco on Derby Road this at around 8am this morning (March 31) after huge plumes of smoke were seen coming from the plant.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has said that part of Derby Road had been closed. Rail services through the Burton have also been cancelled.

There are no reports of anyone being injured by the fire,

Residents have been asked to close windows and doors, and motorists have been asked to keep car windows closed if they are travelling near the blaze.

Staffordshire Police says that the A38 and Hawkins Lane are shut to traffic and that motorists have been urged to avoid the area.
