A Derby nursery, previously assessed as “inadequate” by Ofsted in January, received the same “inadequate” rating during a follow-up inspection on June 21.

Diamond Day Nursery in Alvaston had taken steps to address certain concerns raised in January, but one of the latest inspections revealed ongoing weaknesses in their educational quality.

Despite improvements in hygiene practices, including handwashing and cleaning used potties, the inspection team noted that challenges remained.

In January the report identified two aspects as “inadequate”: personal development, and leadership and management.

In response to this report, Ofsted announced its plan to take enforcement steps and issued a welfare requirements notice, instructing the nursery to make specific improvements by July 12.

On July 13, Ofsted conducted a regulatory visit to assess the nursery’s compliance with the welfare and development actions outlined during the June inspection.

A statement released online stated: “We found that the provider had not fulfilled the requirements outlined in the welfare requirement notice. Consequently, we have issued another welfare requirements notice.”

This time, the nursery had until August 4th to improve in the following areas: assigning a dedicated key person for each child to build positive relationships and adapt learning, developing a clear plan to enhance practitioners’ skills, especially for children with learning gaps, adjusting staffing to meet all children’s needs, and designating a capable deputy in the manager’s absence.

According to Ofsted, the nursery dealt with the necessary actions by the August 4 deadline. Nevertheless, having received two “inadequate” ratings within a span of five months, the nursery situated on Alvaston Street maintains its “inadequate” status until a follow-up inspection occurs, usually within six months of the last assessment.
