Plans revealed for student accommodation in historic city centre building

Plans for a new student scheme in Nottingham city centre have been revealed.

William May Developments has submitted plans to transform 104-106 Upper Parliament into 29-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA). The scheme is being designed by Franklin Ellis.

The building is currently being used a Chinese medical centre on the ground floor and dance studios and a social club on the upper floors.

A planning statement prepared by Franklin Ellis says the scheme is being brought forward to: “regenerate and reinvigorate an under-utilised site within a key regeneration zone in Nottingham City Centre; make a positive contribution to local heritage via the renovation of the existing building; to sustain/preserve, restore and re-invigorate to ensure its long term and appropriate use, safeguarding the building for the future; to provide much needed high quality Purpose Built Student Accommodation in an appropriate location; to improve the sustainable credentials of the existing building – improving its energy performance with sustainable interventions which are sympathetic to its historic status. ”

Nottingham City Council’s planning department will decide on the plans over coming weeks.
