Culture Secretary to stand down

Nicky Morgan MP

Loughborough MP and current Culture Secretary Nicky Morgan is to step down before the upcoming general election.

Morgan announced her decision not to stand on Twitter.

In a letter to LCCA chairman Trevor Ranson shared on the social media platform, Morgan said that being Loughborough’s MP had been the “greatest privilege” of her life, but said the job had had a significant impact on her family.

She cited the abuse of MPs as the main reason for her decision.

Morgan became MP for Loughborough in 2010 and has previously held roles as Secretary of State for Education and Chair of the Treasury Select Committee.
