Top 10 stories of 2022: Number 1 – Internationally renowned bike manufacturer slips into administration

Over the past week, we’ve been taking a look back at our ten most popular stories of 2022.

Our best-read story of the year was published a little over six weeks ago.

In early November, Derbyshire-based bike manufacturer and retailer Stanton Bikes was forced to call in administrators.

The Matlock firm was put up for sale following the appointment of PKF Smith Cooper’s Dean Nelson and Nick Lee, which came after a petition was submitted to the court by a creditor.

Stanton built its national and global reputation in the biking industry by designing, manufacturing and selling hardtail and full suspension bicycle frames. In recent years it has tried to manufacture its bikes in the UK to cut down on the time customers have to wait for their orders.

Bikes sold by Stanton can retail for several thousand pounds.

The company is continuing to trade under the supervision of the joint administrators while a buyer is sought for either the shares or the business and its assets.

Dean Nelson said: “We will be providing creditors with relevant information regarding the administration process to allow them to participate in proceedings. We are currently dealing with all enquiries. We will strive to achieve the best outcome for everyone involved at this difficult time.”
